Epilepsy

To be approved under this listing, a claim must meet any one of the criteria below — and the medical records have to prove it.

  1. A

    Generalized tonic-clonic seizures occurring at least once a month for at least 3 consecutive months, despite adherence to prescribed treatment.

    In plain terms: Despite your seizure medications, are you still having a major (grand mal) seizure at least once a month?

  2. B

    Dyscognitive (complex partial) seizures occurring at least once a week for at least 3 consecutive months despite treatment.

    In plain terms: Are you having complex-partial or dyscognitive seizures — episodes of altered awareness — at least weekly despite treatment?

  3. C

    Generalized tonic-clonic seizures every 2 months for 4 consecutive months despite treatment, AND marked limitation in one functional area.

    In plain terms: Are you having grand-mal seizures every couple of months despite medication, and is the seizure disorder seriously limiting you in physical or mental functioning?

    Evidence required:Treating physician reportRFC (residual functional capacity) assessment
  4. D

    Dyscognitive seizures every 2 weeks for 3 consecutive months despite treatment AND marked limitation in one functional area.

    In plain terms: Are you having complex-partial seizures every couple of weeks despite treatment, and is the disorder significantly affecting you between seizures?
